Cefprozil is an antibiotic drug to treat various bacterial infections, such as infections of the respiratory tract, skin, sinuses, throat, or tonsils. This medicine is only used according to a doctor's prescription.

Dosage and Instructions for Use of Cefprozil

The dose and administration of cefprozil depend on the age of the patient. The following are common doses of cefprozil:

  • skin infection

    Children over 2 years: 20 mg/kg/day. The maximum dose is 1000 mg/day.

  • Respiratory tract infection

    Adults: 500 mg once daily, or 250 mg 2 times daily. The dose may be increased to 500 mg 2 times a day if needed. The maximum duration of use is 10 days.

  • Otitis media

    Children aged 6–24 months: 15 mg/kg, 2 times a day.

  • Acute sinusitis

How to Use Cefprozil Correctly

Use cefprozil as directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking the drug even if the symptoms of the infection have improved. Stopping using the drug before the prescribed period of time can increase the risk of the bacteria that you suffer from becoming resistant (resistant) to antibiotics.

Take cefprozil at the same time every day. This medicine can be taken before or with meals. If complaints of stomach pain or nausea occur after taking the drug, take cefprozil with meals.
