Beware of these dengue-prone areas

Because It has a tropical climate and has a high population density,ddengue-prone areas enough widely spread in whole Indonesia. So that you can be more alert to viral infections that are carried through mosquito bites, let's identify areas that are prone to dengue.

Avoiding dengue is very important for you and your family, because this disease can be dangerous and can be fatal. Recognizing a dengue-prone area can make you more careful if you are or intend to occupy the area, or will travel there.

DHF-Prone Areas in Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest dengue cases in Asia Pacific. Based on data published by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2017, the following are the three provinces with the highest DHF morbidity rates:

  • Bali
  • East Kalimantan
  • West Kalimantan

Meanwhile, the three provinces with the lowest morbidity rates are:

  • North Maluku
  • East Nusa Tenggara
  • Maluku

The number of deaths from dengue fever throughout Indonesia in 2017 reached 493 people, with the highest death rates in Gorontalo and North Sulawesi. However, overall, the morbidity and mortality rate due to DHF in Indonesia has decreased significantly from previous years.

Part of this is inseparable from the increasing quality of good health services, increasingly adequate health facilities, and increasing public awareness.

Factors Causing DHF-Prone Areas

Prone or not DHF is influenced by several factors. Some factors can be controlled and some are not. Here is the explanation:

Environmental factor

Mosquito population Aedes aegypti generally increases during the rainy season. High rainfall is the best condition for mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus to breed. Even so, in Indonesia mosquito breeding occurs almost throughout the year.

One of the main factors is the environment that supports mosquitoes to breed, such as many stagnant waterways, piles of used goods, and the inconsistency of residents to drain bathtubs or water reservoirs.

Social factors

The Ministry of Health revealed that most cases of DHF occurred in cities with high population density, such as in Java. This overcrowding is exacerbated by inadequate infrastructure, such as garbage collection and disposal facilities, as well as clean water storage.

In addition, the behavior of residents to collect water in reservoirs without keeping them clean makes these containers ideal locations for mosquitoes to breed.

The public's limited understanding of the importance of eradicating mosquito nests is also a factor causing the increase in cases in areas prone to dengue.

By recognizing the dengue-prone areas and the various factors that cause it, it is hoped that it will make you more aware of this disease. You can also prevent dengue by participating in government programs, namely the 3M Plus Movement and the Jumantik 1 House 1 Movement.

If you and your family are in a dengue-prone area and experience symptoms of dengue fever, such as high fever, headache, muscle aches, immediately consult a doctor so that they can be treated as early as possible to prevent more serious complications.
