Amyl nitrite - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Amyl nitrite is a vasodilator drug used to relieve angina or chest pain. In addition, this drug is also useful for dealing with cyanide poisoning.

Amyl nitrite works by relaxing blood vessel muscles. That way, the blood vessels will be wider and the supply of oxygen and blood to the heart will increase. This condition can reduce the workload of the heart.

In the treatment of cyanide poisoning, amyl nitrite will prevent the formation of cyanomethemoglobin which cannot deliver oxygen to cells or tissues. By preventing the formation of these compounds, normal metabolic processes can resume.
