More Seriously Facing the Risk of Falling from a Motorcycle

The incident of falling from a motorcycle is often considered a trivial matter. In fact, falling from a motorbike is one of the causes of traffic accidents that can result in permanent disability or even death.

The world health organization, WHO, says there are more than 1.35 million people die due to road accidents every year. Sadly, motorcycle riders are the most vulnerable to accidents that result in death, compared to other types of vehicles.

Precautions for Fatal Injury from Falling from a Motorcycle

Obeying all the driving regulations that have been required is one way to ride a motorcycle safely. The following are some things you need to do, to prevent fatal injuries from falling while riding a motorcycle:

1. Use a helmet while riding a motorcycle

Wearing a helmet while driving is very effective in reducing the risk of head injury. Use a helmet with the Indonesian national standard (SNI) with the right size and installed in the correct position. Wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of death by up to 42% and serious injury, including head injury, by up to 69% when you fall off a motorcycle.

2. Apply safety riding

Practice safe driving (safety riding) by wearing protective equipment and polite behavior in driving. Set the speed and avoid driving at high speed because it is more risky to cause an accident. In addition, also make sure the motorbike you are driving is in good condition.

3. Avoid driving a motorbike while drunk

Consuming alcoholic beverages and drugs is the biggest risk factor as the highest cause of road accidents. This cannot be separated from the intoxicating effects of alcohol and drugs, thus giving a fatal risk when driving a motorized vehicle.

4. Don't ride a motorbike when you're sleepy

Sleepiness is often the cause of motor vehicle traffic, especially in Indonesia. Underlying factors could be fatigue, lack of sleep, or disruption of the circadian rhythm (wake-sleep cycle), for example due to a nighttime work schedule and jet lag.

In order to minimize the risk of falling from the motorbike, make sure you are in a fit condition when driving and don't force yourself to drive when you are sleepy.

In addition, pregnant women are not advised to ride their own motorbike, because if they fall from the motorbike, there can be a tear in the uterine wall (uterine rupture). This condition can endanger the lives of both mother and baby.

To reduce the risk of falling from the motorbike, take the above preventive measures and always obey traffic rules in order to maintain mutual safety. If an accident occurs, immediately consult a doctor or the nearest hospital to get the right treatment.
