The services of a beauty doctor are now increasingly being invaded by women who want to look more beautiful. But, not many know clearly what actions and treatments are carried out by beauty doctors.
Aesthetic doctors aim to improve one's appearance with minimal or non-invasive cosmetic procedures. For example, preventing, reducing and eliminating signs of aging, making the patient's face look brighter, and improving the appearance of facial features. However, the various treatments above can also be done by a dermatologist.
Types of Treatments Performed by Beauty Doctors
The following are some of the treatments performed by beauty doctors.
- Chemical peeling
This treatment can help remove wrinkles and scars on the skin, including acne scars. Chemical peels using chemicals as part of the process of exfoliating the top layer of skin or dead skin layers. So that the skin that will appear on the surface is younger and smoother skin. Some of the chemicals used in this process are adjusted to the depth of the skin layer to be achieved. This treatment alone can be combined with other treatments.
- Dermabrasion
This treatment is the same as chemical peel which aims to remove dead skin cells, only the procedure is different. This treatment uses a special tool to scrape the surface of the skin. You can use dermabrasion if you want to get rid of scars, acne scars, and wrinkles on your face. This process requires anesthesia. You will be given general anesthesia or just a sedative, depending on the area of skin being treated.
- Botox
Botox is a treatment using botulinum toxin which is then injected into the desired body part. This material works by paralyzing or reducing the movement of muscles, so that it can reduce wrinkles on the face.
- Fillers
This treatment is done by injecting a liquid or gel containing certain substances into the wrinkled skin. This liquid will fill the bottom layer of the skin, so that the surface of the skin rises and wrinkles on the face can look smoother. This treatment is temporary with a long lasting 4 months to 1 year, depending on the type of fluid filler used and the type of wrinkles on the patient's face.
- Laser resurfacing
This treatment aims to smooth skin that has many scars, brown spots, or acne scars, reduce fine lines on the face, and tighten facial skin. This treatment has two methods, namely the nonablative laser process, which aims to tighten the skin by triggering the growth of collagen on the face, and the ablative laser process, which is used to remove the top layer of the skin.
Beware Side effects Procedure
Undergoing beauty treatments does not mean without certain side effects or risks. The following are side effects that may appear after you get treatment from your beautician.
- Chemical peels
Before you do this treatment, it's a good idea to consult about your health condition with a beautician. This treatment cannot be done if you have warts on your face, have keloids or excessive scar tissue growth, have freckled skin, abnormal skin pigmentation, dark facial skin, or herpes simplex. Owners of sensitive skin need to be aware of the ingredients used for this procedure, so as not to have a worse effect on the skin.
The side effect that may appear after doing this treatment is that the skin discoloration may become darker. In addition, the face will also become red, but will return to normal after a few days or weeks. Chemical peels can make the skin more susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections. Damage to the kidneys, heart, and liver can be caused by carbolic acid used for chemical peels in the deep layers of the skin. This is because these substances can be absorbed by the body when applied to the skin surface.
- Dermabrasion
This treatment also requires prior consultation because a person with certain conditions cannot perform this treatment. Such as people with herpes simplex, keloids, inflamed acne, or have burns. A side effect of this treatment can be acne. You can also experience changes in skin color, enlarged pores, allergies, and sometimes can also be infected with bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
- Botox
Botox or botulinum toxin which if done in the wrong place, can spread and harm you. Therefore, make sure the beautician you choose has enough experience in dealing with botox injections.
Side effects that may appear after undergoing Botox injections are bruising, swelling, or experiencing flu-like symptoms. If you experience visual disturbances, difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, or difficulty breathing, you should contact your doctor immediately. Improper botox injections can also cause problems with facial muscle movements, such as disturbances in eyelid movement and a lopsided smile.
- Fillers
This treatment has some side effects, such as the possibility of small bumps under the skin, allergies, skin discoloration, and infection. Apart from that, another possibility that could occur as a result of filler is necrosis. Necrosis is the death of body tissue. This can occur because blood flow to body tissues is blocked by substances filler injected, so that the blood supply is blocked and causes tissue death. If you do filler in the nose for example, then the possibility of necrosis in the area around the nose can occur, usually occurs at the tip of the nose (nose tip necrosis).
- Laser
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this treatment is not recommended. Likewise, people with diabetes, keloids, have had radiation therapy or are taking the acne medication isotretinoin.
Side effects that may arise if you do ablative laser are the appearance of acne, infection, scarring, facial redness, itching, swelling, skin discoloration, or ectropion (eyelids that fold outward so that the inner layer is exposed). While the nonablative laser process, the side effects are skin discoloration, swelling, redness, infection, sores, and blisters.
A beautician can help you maintain and improve your skin condition as you wish. However, don't forget to always ask about the risks of each procedure performed. Also provide clear information about your health condition to the beauty doctor.
