Recognize Signs Your Partner is Lying to You

Some people oftentimes did not realize he was being lied to by his partner. But by learning to recognize the signs your partner is lying, you can tell if your partner is telling the truth or not.

Sometimes we feel that we are being lied to by our partners, because their attitudes and words are strange or different from usual. But before accusing the wrong thing, it's a good idea to study the signs your partner is lying.

Based on research results, it takes a lot of energy and thought to lie, which will ultimately affect a person's movements. This is why, researchers reveal that body language can be a sign someone is hiding something from the other person.

Signs of a Lying Partner

There are several distinctive signs, both verbal (words) and nonverbal (body language), that are often done by someone who is lying. These signs are:

1. Avoid keye contact

Someone who is lying is usually seen from eyes that are not clear in their direction of view. He will also be seen avoiding direct eye contact with the other person. For example, your partner often looks at his watch or in the other direction, as if he wants to end the conversation with you.

2. Too many secondsail

Sometimes, because of trying so hard to convince their partner or to divert the conversation, someone will say things that don't really matter and end up explaining things that weren't asked.

3. Voice and expression changes

Our voices, words, and body language are programmed to be in sync. now, if you find a discrepancy between these things in your partner, it could be that he is lying.

For example, when he answers "yes", but shakes his head or he answers your question in a high tone of voice. It can also be recognized by the tone of his voice that is too low, but his speech is fast, coupled with a panicked facial expression or even looks bored.

4. Think hard

Generally, someone who tells the truth has no difficulty remembering an event or an incident and situation. On the other hand, someone who is trying to hide something will appear to be thinking a lot about making up a fake story.

When asked to repeat their statements in a reversed fashion, aka from the end to the beginning of the incident, often people who lied looked doubtful or actually gave different information from the story previously told. And sometimes, instead of thinking out loud, they can simply reason to forget.

5. Looks restless and away from the other person

When they are afraid that something they are hiding will be revealed, someone will look restless and want to get away from the person they are talking to. For example, your partner may be seen tilting their head back while talking to you, tapping their feet, biting their lips, or picking up and playing with something in their hands.

When asked about his changing behavior, or if you talk about infidelity-related topics, your partner may shy away and change the subject immediately.

However, you need to understand that some of the signs above are just clues, not a surefire method to determine if your partner is lying.

People's habits of lying also vary, so it's important to be able to distinguish between their behavior when they are lying and when they are telling the truth.

If you suspect that your partner is lying, it's best to have a good talk with him. It could be that he has a certain reason why he did this, or that he actually said it as it is.

If you feel you are going through a difficult situation or have problems in the household, you and your partner can consult a psychologist for a marriage counseling session.
