Precautions Before Using Triamcinolone Nasal Spray

Triamcinolone nasal spray should only be used according to a doctor's prescription. Here are some things to consider before using triamcinolone nasal spray:

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to triamcinolone. Always tell your doctor about any allergies you have.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 2 years of age.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a nose infection, nose injury, glaucoma, cataracts, or an infectious disease, such as tuberculosis.

  • Avoid contact with or close to people who are suffering from infectious diseases that are easily transmitted, such as chickenpox or measles, as these drugs can increase your risk of infection.
  • See your doctor right away if you have an allergic drug reaction or drug overdose after using triamcinolone nasal spray.

Dosage and Instructions for Use of Triamcinolone Nasal Spray

The dose and duration of use of triamcinolone nasal spray will be determined by the doctor according to the age and condition of the patient. The following are common doses of triamcinolone nasal spray for symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis:

  • Adults and children 12 years of age: The initial dose is 2 sprays into each nostril, once daily or as much as 220 mcg per day. If symptoms improve, the dose may be reduced to 1 spray into each nostril, once daily or as much as 110 mcg per day.
  • Children aged 6–12 years: The initial dose is 1 spray into each nostril, once daily or as much as 110 mcg per day. The dose may be increased to 2 sprays once daily or as much as 220 mcg per day if needed.
  • Child age 2–5 years: The maximum dose is 1 spray into each nostril, once daily or as much as 110 mcg per day.

How to Use Triamcinolone Nasal Spray Correctly

Follow your doctor's advice and read the information on the package before using triamcinolone nasal spray. Clean your nose and shake the bottle of this medicine before using it.

Position your head slightly back. Close one nostril with your finger and then spray the medicine into the nostril.

Inhale slowly through your nose and hold your breath for a few seconds, then exhale out through your mouth. Do the same for the other nostril. After using the medicine, wipe the nose with a dry tissue.

Do not spray the medicine into the barrier in the middle of the nose (nasal septum). Avoid blowing your nose for at least 15 minutes after using this medicine.

Make sure that there is sufficient time between one dose and the next. Try to take triamcinolone at the same time each day for the treatment to be effective.

If you forget to use triamcinolone, do it immediately if the break with the next schedule of use is not too close. If it is close, ignore it and do not double the dose.

Store triamcinolone nasal spray in the package. Place the medication in a cool, dry room. Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight and keep the medicine out of reach of children.

Some of the side effects below can occur after using triamcinolone nasal spray:
