The dose of ceftizoxime that your doctor prescribes depends on your age, condition, and the patient's response to the drug. The following is the general dose of ceftizoxime based on the patient's condition:

Condition: Gonorrhea

  • Mature

    1 g single dose intramuscular (IM) injection.

Condition: Urinary tract infection

  • Mature

    0.5 g per 12 hours given by IM injection or intravenous (IV) injection.

Condition: Other bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, cholangitis, cystitis, bacterial endocarditis, cholecystitis, pneumonia, prostatitis, peritonitis, or septicemia.

  • Mature

    0.5–2 g per day, divided into 2–4 separate doses by IM or IV injection. For severe infections, the dose may be increased to 4 g per day.

  • Children6 months

    Dose: 40–80 mg/kg per day, divided into 2–4 separate doses. For severe infections, the dose may be increased to 120 mg/kg per day.

How to Use Ceftizoxime Correctly

Ceftizoxime injection should only be given by a doctor or medical personnel under the supervision of a doctor. This drug is used by injection into a muscle or vein.
