Lynestrenol or linestrenol is a hormone preparation to treat menstrual cycle and ovulation disorders. Lynestrenol contains artificial progesterone which can also be used as an oral contraceptive or birth control pills to prevent pregnancy.

Lynestrenol is a synthetic progestogen that works like the natural progestogen hormone that women have. Therefore, lynesrenol can also be used to treat menstrual disorders caused by lack of progesterone levels.

Precautions Before Taking Lynestrenol

Lynestrenol should only be taken with a doctor's prescription. Before taking lynesrenol, you need to pay attention to the following things:

  • Do not use lynesrenol if you are allergic to this drug.
  • Do not use lynesrenol if you are taking anticoagulants, such as warfarin.
  • Tell your doctor if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, breast cancer, progesterone-related tumors, porphyria, or thrombotic diseases, such as pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Avoid using lynesterol in patients with these conditions.

Lynestrenol Dosage and Usage

The doctor will determine the dose and duration of lynesrenol treatment according to the patient's condition. The following is the division of lynesrenol dosage based on its function:

Function: Overcoming menstrual disorders

  • Mature: 5–10 mg daily

Function: As a contraceptive

  • Mature: 0.5 mg daily when taken as a single drug. Dosage 0.75–2.5 mg daily, when used in combination with estrogen.

How to Use Lynestrenol Correctly

Follow the doctor's advice and read the information listed on the medicine package before using lynesrenol. Do not increase or decrease the dose without consulting your doctor first.

Lynestrenol tablets can be taken before or after meals. Take the lynesrenol tablet with a glass of water to swallow the lynesrenol tablet.

Make sure that there is sufficient time between one dose and the next. Try to take lynesrenol at the same time every day for maximum treatment.
