Sour pipemidat or pipemidic acid is a drug to treat urinary tract infections caused by gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive bacteria. This drug belongs to the class of quinolone antibiotics.
Pipemic acid kills infection-causing bacteria by inhibiting topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase enzymes that play an important role in bacterial growth. Pipemic acid can only be used with a doctor's prescription.
